Are you ready for some football??
I look forward to football season all year...and it's finally here again! I even gave up golfing today with friends to stay home (on this most gorgeous day) and make soup and cornbread and watch the Pats! Right now, I'm watching da Bears beat Indy...hopefully they can hold that lead! But, oh, our poor Tom Brady. I know I wasn't the only one in New England that stopped breathing when he went down. Hats off to Matt Cassell for a great effort and most especially to the defense that held the goal line in the final seconds! My other team, the Vikings are kicking off Monday night football tomorrow against Green Bay...I want to say it promises to be a good game but my Purple People don't always show well on Monday night. Let's hope this year will be different! (FYI, its a double header of Monday Night Football so it starts at 7:00, probably a good night to order out!) And if you are looking for some great local football, check out those UConn Huskies, 2 -0 to start the season!
Football beckons the start of fall and school. The library, as well as the rest of the community, is in the back-to-school mode. Parents, I urge you to stop by and see all our resources, from books to on-line resources, that may help your children with all sorts of homework assignments. We're also starting our fall schedule of programs. Knitting classes and (Almost) Midnight Madness are beginning again. Story and craft hour will begin on Wednesdays in October. With our change in staffing, our Friends group has volunteered to host story hours and they have some exciting ideas, stories and crafts to entertain your pre-schooler! We have a Monson Moves Grand Finale on September 27. More details to follow in the next few days, but trust me, it's going to be fun...and healthy! Plus, on Sept. 30, we are hosting the East Coast premiere of "White Shark Cafe" a documentary about Great White Shark research...from the depths of the ocean to Face Book! Monsonite Sean Aronson directed and produced this movie and will be available to answer your questions. And finally, (but not really, look at the "events" listing to the left for a complete listing of all our programs) we have a volunteer who will be helping you learn how to download books, audios, and videos for FREE! Yes, we offer this service, but I am willing to bet, most of you don't know that. Join Forris the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00pm for an informal presentation of how you can easily take advantage of this resource. And for those of you, like me, that have an iPod, many of the items are now iPod compatible!
So...
"Are you ready for some football?
A Monday night party,
The whole house is rockin, let's get it kick-started,
Launch this thing, raise the roof
That's right, all my rowdy friends are here on Monday night!"
(If you're a fan you know that's Hank Williams Jr. with the Monday night football theme!) And here's some trivia...This will be the 20th year Hank Williams Jr. is the featured music for MNF...can you believe it's been that long, seems like yesterday!
Stop back soon! I know I've been a bit inconsistent, so I promise to post more reads, rants, reviews, and of course, random thougths, more frequently to keep your interest and keep you informed!
