A Gray Day

A gray day is a perfect day for the library! Books, videos, audios, home design or travel magazine to take you away. I don't necessarily need warm but I do need some sun!! To that end, I have a stack of books by my bedside to satisfy my every mood. "The Non-Runner's Marathon Guide for Women" (inspiration) , "Ratio" (cooking), The Gerbil Farmer's Daughter (quirky memoir), "Seven Days in the Art World" (art!), "The Enemy of God" (suspense... Robert Dailey...highly recommend him! "Prince of the City", "Year of the Dragon", "To Kill a Cop". A former cop himself, he writes a gripping novel. He must because I don't like suspense!), and finally "The Selected Writings of Truman Capote" (just because I like him.) Whew! Quite a list. We'll see what I actually get through. Have you read "The Gerbil Farmer's Daughter" by Holly Robinson? I loved the review and started reading it last night. Her strict, military father raised gerbils...really! So intriguing, how could you resist! I am actually working on getting her to come to the library...whadya think??

Here's a really quick note on a few things. Movie..."Big Fan" with Patton Oswalt (Spence from the King of Queens) Description calls it darkly funny. I call it darkly disturbing...but great! I didn't see anything funny, almost to real to be funny. Anyway...Paul, a troubled, disturbed, unmotivated adult son living with mom but really only living for Giants football on Sundays and calling in to sports radio..."Go ahead Paul from Staten Island...." He has a bad encounter his football hero and his life changes forever...or does it? I'm sure we all know someone like Paul and I think that's why it was so frustrating to watch. Excellent flick!! Unsuspecting plot twists!

Here are two that had promise and good reviews that didn't do it for me...maybe you might like them but I didn't think they lived up to the hype. I don't like to pan books, just promote good ones so I'll mention the titles but you decide for yourself. They were "Cherries in Winter" (such a promising title!) and "Mennonite In a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home" (must admit I couldn't get through this one...)

I've given you a lot to ponder for a Friday afternoon...so what's on your bedside table?
